What the Wenches Are Reading

While several Wenches are consumed with Written in My Own Heart's Blood, the rest of us are finally getting into Wench recommendations, making progress on epic sagas, savoring rereads of favorites, and nursing a book hangover.

Amanda: I haven't had much time to read this week, but when I get a moment, I'm reading A Dance with Dragons by George R. R. Martin.

Angela: My new mantra should be Zee is always right when it comes to book recommendations. I finally picked up a Neil Gaiman book  American Gods and it was everything Zee said it would be. Insightful, intriguing, captivating. I was rivetted from the first chapter and as I continued to read, Gaiman's wider statements about the world we live in and how we are as human beings really struck a cord with me. The lead character Shadow draws you in, until you are waiting with bated breath to see what happens next. Gaiman's take on what happened to all the gods once our belief in them starts to disappear was compelling. If you have never read a book by Neil Gaiman, I can't recommend American Gods highly enough. You need to read this book!

Anne: I'm kind of in between books right now. I guess I'm in a Cross & Crown book hangover. Hopefully, I'll find something to keep my attention soon.

Barb: I'm still on The Fiery Heart. It was a busy birthday week for me, and I'm savoring the read this time. The books is so damned good that I'm in no hurry to finish it.

Beta: I'm continuing my very slow A Breath of Snow and Ashes read but since my summer vacation is just around the corner I'm planning on gear it up a bit!

Care: This week has been pretty laid back, book-wise.  Again, I'm reading Cross & Crown, this time taking my time and enjoying every little minute of it.  I'm also working my way through Shadows & Dreams (Kate Kane #2), with a review and blog tour coming soon!

Donna: I'm anxiously awaiting getting my hands on MOBY. I have to wait for my birthday, though. My sister and I will be meeting her on the weekend at her booksigning. After that, no one will hear from me for a few days...

Kathi: I’m halfway through Written in My Own Heart’s Blood, mesmerized and completely awed. It’s better than I dreamed it could be. Even after all this time and with so many characters, the Outlander world continues to enchant me like no other. I’m pretty much speechless right now (really—I have laryngitis, and I’m blaming it on my yelling and laughing at this book!) until all the new revelations and developments sink in. The way the intricate details from all the previous books come together is beyond genius.

Merit: This week you can find me deep inside the 18th century, reading (of course) Written in My Own Heart’s Blood,  Diana Gabaldon's eighth novel in the Outlander series. I read the book whenever I can, life always interferes, but I’m more than half through the story and I love it!!! I marvel at Herself's ability to describe scenes, people and places in such a detailed fashion, I always feel as if I am really there inside the story, experiencing it all.

Natalie: Ok so work kicked my butt this week!  However it did not stop me completely from reading.  I am currently 39% in on my A Discovery of Witches re-read in prep for next month's release of the final book in Deborah Harkness's All Soul's Trilogy.  I'm greatly looking forward to The Book of Life and I'm actively trying to win a Commonplace book.  My hope and dream is that by July 15th I'll have had book 1 & 2 completely re read along with Commonplace.  So that on release day I can, after work, dive nose deep into The Book of Life!  I'm so excited, and I just can't hide it!  (Sorry the Pointer Sisters song is running through my head at the moment.)  I don't how much I'll be able to read in the coming week as work still crazy busy and I get to see Wenches Anne and Amanda next Sunday!  (More dancing to the Pointer Sisters!)  Three Wenches will be in Chicago digging on some Chicago Style Deep Dish Pizza!  Happy Reading everyone.

Zee: I finished the second Charley Davidson book and enjoyed it a LOT. And the ending made me gasp (and want to smack Charley) but definitely want to see where this is going.
