Fangirl Friday: Orange Is The New Black

Image
I am a very stubborn person. I know, I know. It's a shock. You thought I was easy-going and laid-back. I'm not. I like things my way, and I usually resist when they aren't. And one thing that I'm stubborn about is not doing what everyone else is doing. I don't knew where this came from, or why I avoid trends. I can't even remember when this started, so maybe I've always been a salmon (swimming against the current). But I do know that if everyone else is doing it, loving it, wearing it, chances are, I won't be. Usually this stubbornness serves me well, but sometimes I'm missing something really great, and don't find out until the furor has died down, and everyone else has moved on. This is the case with the Netflix show, Orange Is The New Black . The show debuted the summer of 2013 and was an instant hit. Everyone was talking about it, so that, of course, meant that I was not going to watch it. The buzz died down, life went on and a year passed

"You've got this all figured out, don't you?" "My good looks are exceeded only by my brains." "And your humility." He grinned. "I've got no need for humility." He had me there. The Veil ~~Chloe Neill

ARC Review: The Veil by Chloe Neill

Image
When one of my favorite authors starts a new series I'm invariably filled with both excitement and trepidation. The excitement is self-explanatory--she has more ideas and she's fabulous so of course it's going to be as amazing as the books I already love! But there's usually trepidation too, because *gasp* what if it's not my taste? What if I don't like it as much as the other series? What if I can't stop comparing the new characters to the characters I already know and love? When Chloe Neill announced that she was going to be starting a new series, and that it was going to be set in a post-apocalyptic New Orleans...well. I was just excited. No trepidation at all. I adore Ms. Neill to the moon and back, and New Orleans remains my favorite city I've ever been to, so there was no way I wasn't going to love this book. Was my confidence well placed? Was I as excited after finishing The Veil as I was upon receiving the ARC? Do I love Claire and Liam

“Of course, everyone's parents are embarrassing. It goes with the territory. The nature of parents is to embarrass merely by existing, just as it is the nature of children of a certain age to cringe with embarrassment, shame, and mortification should their parents so much as speak to them on the street. ”

What the Wenches Are Reading

Image
I don't recall having this reaction to his movie version! Many Wenches are completely engrossed in some really good reading right now, unlike the underwhelmed gentleman shown here. We've explored all sorts of new genres and authors over our blogging break, and here's what our eyes are glued to this week. We hope you've also found books to love this week, and that you'll share them with us in the comments. Because we're always looking for that next great read!

"Do you really believe me, Jamie?" He sighed, and smiled ruefully down at me.  "Aye, I believe ye, Sassenach. But it would ha' been a good deal easier if you'd only been a witch."  ~ Outlander by Diana Gabaldon

How We Spent Our Summer (For Most Of Us) Vacation

Image
Wench Amanda's awesome book covers puzzle Welcome back, Saucy Readers! For those of us in the Northern Hemisphere, we took a nice long summer vacation from blogging, while Angela took a winter break. Either way, we've had time to read, catch up on our favorite TV shows, and maybe even pay a little attention to our families. I, for one, got a LOT of reading done, flying through books faster than I have in quite some time. It felt great, so thank you for giving us time off to breathe and relax. Now we're back and ready to tell you all about what we've been doing, since we haven't been blogging. Click through to see what entertainments have delighted us in our time off.
